Education & Early Childhood Education

The instability of homelessness is traumatic for children and devastating to a child’s brain development. At Family Gateway, we know how important early childhood education is to break the cycle of homelessness. Our staff ensures that children are enrolled in school and provides after-school and summer programming including:

  • Tutoring
  • Mentoring
  • Homework assistance
  • Recreational and enrichment activities

For our youngest children, we use evidence-based tools (such as the Brigance screening tool) to identify learning delays, as well as strengths and weaknesses in language, motor, self-help, social–emotional, and cognitive skills. We then support families to become the primary educators of their children through formal early childhood education services.
