Intake Process

Initial Contact

We will enter your information into the Homeless Management Information System and gather household demographics, i.e., name, birthdate, social security number, family composition, race, etc.

We will request proof of identification and proof of guardianship of minor children, when each household presents at the intake site. However, no household will be denied entrance into Emergency Housing because he or she does not have identification or proof of guardianship.  Please bring as much information as you have to the intake process; missing documents can be acquired following intake, within a timeline specified by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Because shelter space is so scarce in our community, we will attempt to find an alternative solution, such as contacting relatives and/or friends for support.  If shelter is needed, we will attempt to place you in any available space, inside or outside our organization.

Homeless Prevention

When possible, households will be referred to other suitable resources, either within OHS or the community, for the purpose of exploring housing options other than emergency housing placement.

Fleeing/Attempting to Flee Domestic Violence

If you are fleeing domestic violence (DV), we will attempt to get you connected to the organization assigned to be the “DV Access Point” to get confidential safe services. If a DV shelter (safe house) is not available, we will work to find other options.
