Volunteers at Family Gateway become an extension of our staff and help in many different ways.  Whether you work directly with our clients or behind the scenes, you will have an opportunity to make a lasting difference.

Volunteer Opportunities

We have multiple opportunities at Family Gateway to fit your interests and talents. We encourage you to be creative about ways you would like to help families in crisis. If you have an idea on how to help, we are eager to partner with you.

The following are some of the ways our volunteers are currently involved:

1. Create a fun arts and crafts activity, help school-aged children with homework, or read a story to a group of children.

2. Provide a party and entertainment for holiday celebrations and special events. 

3. Help adult clients learn computer skills, resume writing and financial literacy.

4. Help prepare and/or serve meals to families. 

5. Sponsor a donation drive with your office, congregation, school, or Scout troop.

6. Organize a fundraising event such as a bake sale, community garage sale or auction.

7. Help with the collection and organization of holiday gifts for families.

8. Assist in our administrative offices with admin tasks and special projects.
   
   

Group Volunteer Opportunities

Family Gateway welcomes large and small volunteer groups from the community. Your congregation, corporation, classroom or Scout troop can make a lasting impact at Family Gateway. College students can also earn credit through our service learning opportunities.

Group projects in the past have included:

1. Painting hallways and bedrooms

2. Decorating a room at the Center

3. Decorating an apartment

4. Landscaping around the Center and at Gateway Apartments

5. Helping at fundraisers and events

6. Orgainizing a donation drive or fundraising event

   
   

How can you help?

Board Committees

We welcome interested members of the community to serve on various Board committees as members-at-large. If you are interested in serving on a Board committee, please contact Joan Sutton at 214.823.4500, ext. 112 or email jsutton@familygateway.org.

Family Gateway does provide opportunities for Community Service Restitution. All volunteers must submit to a national background check, including criminal and/or sexual offender background checks.
