Eligibility

All families wishing to enter the transitional housing program at Family Gateway Center must participate in a screening and interview process. Eligible families must be:

  • Single or two-parent families with children
  • Dallas County residents
  • Not fleeing an abusive situation
  • Motivated to enter and complete the program
  • Able to benefit from a ten-week program

Families applying to enter Gateway Apartments must be:

  • Single or two-parent families with children
  • Former residents of Family Gateway Center
  • Willing to abide by apartment rules
  • Motivated to participate in the program, which results in employment and housing in the community

In addition, a decision on entry is made based on a nationwide criminal background check.  If a family is determined to be ineligible, Family Gateway provides transportation via taxi or bus to an emergency shelter.
