Family Gateway’s life skills programs help parents establish a greater bond with their children, and improve their competency in the home and workplace.

Nurturing the Next Generation
While residing at Family Gateway Center, parents learn how to plan and prepare nutritious meals for their families, placing emphasis on proper food handling and storage techniques. An understanding of proper nutrition and basic homemaking skills is essential to raising a healthy child. This training helps foster self-development in the parent and child that have experienced the crisis of temporary homelessness.

Infant Bonding/Effective Parenting
This curriculum-based parenting program teaches new mothers and fathers how to care for their children, and teaches the principles of “wise parenting”. Parents learn how to parent effectively, discipline appropriately, and maintain the consistency required to strengthen their relationships with their children.

Good Housekeeping
Many young parents have never learned the skills necessary to maintain a clean, neat, sanitary home. Residents practice their new skills in their living quarters at Family Gateway Center.

Financial Literacy
This course introduces clients to the basics of obtaining bank accounts, balancing a checkbook and making wise day-to-day decisions. Parents can learn the skills they need to become financially self-sufficient.
