Breaking the Cycle

Homelessness is generational. The problems and emotional stress of homeless parents are in turn mirrored by the children, and the cycle of poverty is perpetuated. Family Gateway created the “Breaking the Cycle of Homelessness” project based on a comprehensive program of intervention and prevention for the homeless child.

Family Gateway uses life skills training to “parent the parents,” teaching adults how to provide for themselves and encouraging them to look toward a better future for themselves and their children. Our staff is dedicated to providing positive, enriching experiences in a structured, stable and non-threatening environment. Family Gateway case managers collaborate with other professionals to identify children’s behavioral, mental and psychological problems, and to coordinate services provided by the government and social service agencies.
